Nikon Gets the Giggles and Partners With Comedy Wildlife Photo Awards
PetaPixel does not often share “call for entries” for photo contests, but the next edition of the iconic Comedy Wildlife Photo Competition is worth the exception thanks to some hilarious new photos and Nikon’s involvement.
The amusing, lighthearted photo contest is getting a rebrand thanks to its new Nikon sponsorship. The organizers are celebrating the opening of the inaugural “Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards” with side-splitting, never-before-seen photos from last year’s contest.
Since its founding in 2015 by Paul Joynson-Hicks MBE and Tom Sullam, a pair of professional photographers who wanted to make people smile with expertly crafted and humorous wildlife photos, the contest has featured some incredible beautiful “bloopers” from the unpredictable world of wildlife photography. A rockstar ‘roo won last year’s contest.
As the Comedy Wildlife Photo Competition marks its 10th anniversary, Nikon, one of the biggest players in the photography world, is joining as the title sponsor of the awards.
“We are thrilled to be partnering with The Comedy Wildlife team this year to become The Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards. Utilizing the natural affinity between our brands to celebrate global wildlife, we look forward to generating vital awareness surrounding conservation,” says Stefan Maier, Nikon Europe Senior General Manager Marketing.
“Nikon has spent more than 100 years not only pioneering imaging technology, but also empowering creators and image makers around the world as they perfect their craft. We’re therefore thrilled to combine forces, providing a platform for talented creatives to not only tell stories that make an impact — but that put a smile on people’s faces too.”
With Nikon on board for the newly named Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards, it’s no surprise that winners will receive some great Nikon mirrorless photo gear this year. The overall winner will get a once-in-a-lifetime safari adventure in the Maasai Mara in Kenya and a handcrafted trophy from The Wonder Workshop in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The Nikon Junior category winner will get a Nikon Z30 kit, while the Nikon Young Photographer winner will receive a Nikon Z8 kit and a brand-new iPad with Affinity Photo software. All category winners get Think Tank photography bags.
The closing date for entries is July 31. When the shortlist and overall winners are announced in September and November, respectively, PetaPixel will surely share the news. The entire Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards’ rules and regulations and entry information is available on the Comedy Wildlife Photo website.
