Leica Updates Its Compact Camera Lineup with the X2 and V-Lux 40
The M Monochrom B&W rangefinder wasn’t the only camera Leica unveiled today — the company also announced two new models in its compact camera lineup. The first is the X2, successor to the X1 of 2009. It’s an APS-C sensor camera that features 16.2-megapixels, a fixed 24mm Elmarit f/2.8 ASPH lens, a 2.7-inch LCD screen, and a hefty $2,000 price tag.
The V-Lux 40 is pretty much the Leica-branded version of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS20. It shares the same guts and a slightly different design. Features include a 14.1-megapixel 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor, a 24-480mm f/3.3-6.4 optical zoom lens, and 1080p video recording. The Leica red dot and design boosts the camera’s price up to $699 from the DMC-ZS20’s $269.
Both cameras are available for purchase starting today. Oh, and by the way: the X2 comes with a free copy of Adobe Lightroom.
