The Best Places to Buy Used Cameras and Lenses in 2024

Ever since I became a photographer, most of the cameras and lenses I have purchased have been used. Most cameras and lenses only come with one-year warranties (though there are exceptions), and since some used gear sellers offer 6-month warranties, that extra half-year is often not worth the difference (to me). And, of course, some items -- like vintage or discontinued cameras and lenses -- are only available used.

Where to Sell Your Used Camera Gear

Well, you finally did it. After months of thinking about it, pining over the pictures and recommendations of others on social media, and constantly inflating your budget, someone’s got a new camera. But after spending all that time thinking about your new purchase, you neglected to put any serious thought into what to do with your used camera gear. So where do you start?.

B&H Will Refund All Sales Tax for Every Customer with Its New Credit Card

Online shopping used to give buyers the perk of not having to pay sales tax, but the Supreme Court ruled last year that states can force online retailers to collect taxes. B&H just unveiled a solution to this "sales tax problem": it launched a new credit card that refunds all sales tax on all orders for all customers.

States Can Force Online Retailers to Collect Sales Tax: Supreme Court

Camera gear is about to get more expensive for most online shoppers in the United States. The Supreme Court just ruled that states may force online retailers to collect sales tax on their behalf. While Amazon already does this -- it has a "nexus" in every state -- camera gear giants like B&H and Adorama will now have to follow suit.

I Bought a Nikon 13mm f/5.6 AIS ‘Holy Grail’ Lens: Here’s the Unboxing

Late last Wednesday night, I was browsing the B&H Photo website looking for a refurbished Nikon D810. I entered “Nikon refurbished” as my search term, then sorted the results by price from high-to-low so that the D810 would float to the top. Lo and behold, right above the D810 as the first result was a “New Arrival” Nikon 13mm f/5.6 AI-S, refurbished with case.

B&H is Shipping an Extra $3,200 Sony a7R III to Customers by Accident

When I picked up my new $3,200 Sony a7R III camera from B&H Photo at UPS on Monday morning, I was surprised at how it was packed, because it was a box inside a box. This never happens, so imagine my surprise when I opened this rather large second box to find two cameras inside.

B&H Responds to US Govt Lawsuit, Calls Claims ‘Inaccurate’ and ‘Bizarre’

One of the big stories in the photo industry this month was news that the US government is suing the camera superstore B&H Photo Video for discrimination and harassment of its workers.

Photographer Accuses B&H of ‘Bait and Switch’ After $7,100 Mistake

Camera gear retailers almost always have legal disclaimers that protect them from major pricing mistakes -- if a $10,000 item is accidentally priced at $10, the order can be cancelled and there's no obligation to honor the order and take a huge financial hit.

But, as one photographer just found out, pricing errors can sometimes hurt quite a bit. He's accusing photo megastore B&H of a "bait and switch" move after a $7,100 mistake involving a Hasselblad camera kit.

B&H Photo Warehouse Workers Vote to Unionize

B&H workers have unionized after passing a 200-to-88 vote yesterday to join the United Steelworkers (USW) union.
